🏐 We are a non-profit organisation that was started back in 1973 by a few mums wanting to see their daughters play this great game. Now, we are one of the largest clubs competing in the Illawarra Winter Saturday Competition.
🏐 In 2025, we have approximately 200 registered members and an extremely passionate and hard-working committee who strive to make this club grow and succeed, each and every year.
This artwork tells the story of our club’s connection to Country, culture, and community. Woven throughout are the colours red, white, and black, representing our club identity.
Shell middens feature prominently, representing the rich Aboriginal history of Shellharbour and the long-standing relationship between First Nations people and the coastal environment.
Flowing through the design are humpback whales, or Burri Burri, a local totem and a reminder of Shellharbour’s deep connection to the ocean.
The hand symbolises the nurturing of younger generations by knowledge holders of the club, passing on skills, values, and care. It also reflects the strong sense of family that runs through our club, where support, connection, and belonging are fostered across all ages.
The meeting place symbols represent the many locations across Dharawal Country where we come together to train, play, meet and connect. The three meeting places connected to the ripple of middens also symbolise the three core domains of our club, the players, the coaches, and the umpires, who each contribute to the growth and spirit of our club.
This intergenerational bond is a powerful reminder that we grow stronger together, just like families do — learning from one another and lifting each other up. It speaks to our strength of community, learning and leadership.
Together, the elements reflect a club that acknowledges our long and shared history on this land, honours the stories that have come before us, and works together to build a culturally safe and inclusive future for all members of our netball community.
We are grateful for the wonderful work and collaboration on this piece with Coomaditchie United Aboriginal Corporation, Port Kembla, NSW.
Shellharbour Netball Club Inc. respectfully acknowledges the Wodi Wodi and Five Islands people of the Dharawal Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our coaches and players, train and play, and where our committee meets.
We pay our respects to the Elders of this Country, past and present, and extend this respect to all our members who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. We are committed to recognising the role and value of this ancient culture across our whole community.
We acknowledge that this land was, is and always will be Aboriginal Land.
